If land-use is planned, more renewable power can be implemented with a minimal impact on biodiversity. If photovoltaic plants were to replace intensive and super-intensive olive groves, the problem of overexploitation of aquifers would also be solved.
Throughout the progress of Ambiosolar, we will develop proposals for land-use; although most of them will be achieved in the final phases of the project.
A case study in Campo de Tabernas concludes that for large-scale photovoltaic energy to be an environmentally sustainable activity, public participation and a strategic environmental assessment are essential.
